Ever wondered running your domestic electrical equipments (Fans, Tv, washing machines, electric kettles etc.,) with the electricity generated from a coat of paint applied on the outside walls of your house????
Here comes new invention - SOLAR PAINT.
Scientists at the Notre Dame’s Center for Nano Science and Technology (NDnano)claims, they could able to actually generate electricity with a coat of paint, a mixture of nanometer-sized titanium dioxide particles, coated with either cadmium sulfide or cadmium selenide and suspended in water-alcohol mixture to create a paint-like paste which was then applied to conducting glass surface and annealed at 200 degree C. This paint generates electricity when exposed to sun-light. The research group is led by Mr. Prashant Kamat, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Notre Dame.
Mr. Kamat and team working on improving the efficiency and stability of the formulation. The researchers also claims this can be made cheaply made and in large quantities.
Will this invention become the game changer in the field renewable energy, especially Solar Power Generation? Let's wait and watch.
